6/22- Daily Drawing insight

Over the summer so far, I have found that the daily drawings are very good practice. It helps remind me some goals I want to achieve over the summer before the next school year begins. Drawing from observation is helpful with building my skills and seeing what I need to work on improving.

Altered Book insight

I have really been enjoying working on the altered book. It helps me create new ideas and try new things. It helps to view other artists work and get some different ideas to go off of. I'm interested in seeing how everyone elses AB turn out by the end of the summer.

Milwaukee Art Museum

Thelma Appel (American, b. Israel, 1938)
Yaddo, 1974
Acrylic and sand on canvas

I found this painting on a website of the Milwaukee Art Museum, and it caught my attention because of the use of color and how the artist used her brushstrokes to slowly transition the different colors.

Lyrics photo

“I do try, I don’t know why, for you brought me better nights. A beautiful baby blue sky that’s looking up at you, now watch it fade away…” -The Early November

“Just like the lady in the blue dress, You’ve got cigarettes on your breath, hairspray and some cheap perfume. I’ll put a little sour in your sweet.

You say that you want respect, well then you better get some for yourself. Cause all that I see right now, is someone whose lost and encircled.” -Senses Fail

Portraits

I like this photo because of the way the green contrasts well with her skin, and I like the lighting on her face. To edit this photo I just enhanced the lighting and adjusted the brightness/contrast.
This photo is of my sister and I decided to make it black and white and blur the background to focus more on her face.

Color psychology

This photo represents the color black which can show death. I thought it would look the best to have her stand against a white background so that the black would stand out. I used a gaussian blur/ overlay filter on this.
This photo obviously represents green which can mean peace and openness. I adjusted the hue/ saturation and the brightness/ contrast to help the green really stand out.

This photo represents brown which can be down-to-earth or sophisticated. I used a photo filter- sepia tone to create a better brown through-out the photo.

This photo is for the Yellow Wallpaper story I read. It shows the isolated feeling of being trapped inside a room and only being able to look out a window. I adjusted the brightness/contrast and played around with the curves to give the photo a darker more depressing look.

Attractive Photo

This photo represents attractive because I think the sky looks pretty. To edit this photo I just adjusted the highlights/shadows and the contrast.

Attractive Photos

This picture represents attractive. I was actually outside taking pictures and I saw a deer like across my road and was lucky to get a quick photo before the deer ran away. I like how I framed the deer between the fence and the branches. I played with the colors a little and blured the background around the deer to make the deer stand out better.

Repulsive Photos

I chose to take this photo of my old rusty van to represent repulsive. All I did to edit this one was sharpen it a little.

This photo is of my sisters foot covered in dry mud/clay. A lot of people think feet are gross, so I thought it would be a good repulsive image to take. The foot was already in focus with the background out of focus when I took it. All I did to edit this picture is play around with the highlight/contrast.

Filter the Background

I took this photo in New Orleans, and I chose to use the "filter the background" on it to show the motion of the man playing the drums.

I chose to use "filter the background" to make the cat the main focal point in this photo.

Neon Glow Filter

This photo is of my cat. I liked how this one turned out because I used the neon glow filter to make the highlight on my cat standout more and enhanced the other colors.

I took this photo at an aquarium in New Orleans. I like the view I got from underneath because there was a tunnel you could walk through surrounded by water, which gave me a good opportunity to get this shot. I used the neon glow filter to make the highlight more dramatic.

Easy Blur Filter

I took this photo over spring break in New Orleans. I used the easy blur filter on this one to give it a "dreamy look". I think using this filter really helped enhance the quality of the photo.

I took this picture down my road, where there's a little farm that I use to go to when I was little to feed the horses. I used the easy blur filter to soften the photo a little.

Blur/overlay filter

I took this picture over spring break in New Orleans. When I was there I thought this was really pretty, so I wanted to edit it to make it look better. I used the blur/overlay filter to brighten it and contrast the colors more. I like how it turned out.

I took this picture from a view off of Sawyer Rd. that I drive down pretty much everyday. I chose to edit this picture because I like the yellow highlight in the grass from the dandilions, and it reminds me of summer. I used the blur/overlay filter to it, which gave it a boost of color.
